  • scene — the place where some action or event occurs: He returned to the scene of the murder.
  • prospect — Usually, prospects. an apparent probability of advancement, success, profit, etc. the outlook for the future: good business prospects.
  • picture — a visual representation of a person, object, or scene, as a painting, drawing, photograph, etc.: I carry a picture of my grandchild in my wallet.
  • vista — a national program in the U.S., sponsored by ACTION, for sending volunteers into poor areas to teach various job skills.
  • survey — to take a general or comprehensive view of or appraise, as a situation, area of study, etc.
  • purview — the range of operation, authority, control, concern, etc.

  • compass — A compass is an instrument that you use for finding directions. It has a dial and a magnetic needle that always points to the north.
  • scenery — the general appearance of a place; the aggregate of features that give character to a landscape.
  • sweep — to move or remove (dust, dirt, etc.) with or as if with a broom, brush, or the like.
  • orbit — the curved path, usually elliptical, described by a planet, satellite, spaceship, etc., around a celestial body, as the sun.
