  • cook up — If someone cooks up a dishonest scheme, they plan it.
  • get off — to receive or come to have possession, use, or enjoyment of: to get a birthday present; to get a pension.
  • head trip — a mentally exhilarating or productive experience, as one in which a person's intellect or imagination seems to expand.
  • make up — the style or manner in which something is made; form; build.
  • play it by ear — a dramatic composition or piece; drama.
  • whip up — to beat with a strap, lash, rod, or the like, especially by way of punishment or chastisement; flog; thrash: Criminals used to be whipped for minor offenses.
  • dope out — any thick liquid or pasty preparation, as a lubricant, used in preparing a surface.
  • think up — to have a conscious mind, to some extent of reasoning, remembering experiences, making rational decisions, etc.
  • throw together — to propel or cast in any way, especially to project or propel from the hand by a sudden forward motion or straightening of the arm and wrist: to throw a ball.
  • trump up — Cards. any playing card of a suit that for the time outranks the other suits, such a card being able to take any card of another suit. Often, trumps. (used with a singular verb) the suit itself.
  • bargain for — If you have not bargained for or bargained on something that happens, you did not expect it to happen and so feel surprised or worried by it.
  • block out — If someone blocks out a thought, they try not to think about it.
  • figure on — a numerical symbol, especially an Arabic numeral.
  • figure out — a numerical symbol, especially an Arabic numeral.
  • line up — a mark or stroke long in proportion to its breadth, made with a pen, pencil, tool, etc., on a surface: a line down the middle of the page.
  • set out — to put (something or someone) in a particular place: to set a vase on a table.
