- head off — the upper part of the body in humans, joined to the trunk by the neck, containing the brain, eyes, ears, nose, and mouth.
- cut off — If you cut something off, you remove it with a knife or a similar tool.
- prevent — to keep from occurring; avert; hinder: He intervened to prevent bloodshed.
- seize — to take hold of suddenly or forcibly; grasp: to seize a weapon.
- stop — to cease from, leave off, or discontinue: to stop running.
- deflect — If you deflect something that is moving, you make it go in a slightly different direction, for example by hitting or blocking it.
- arrest — If the police arrest you, they take charge of you and take you to a police station, because they believe you may have committed a crime.
- ambush — If a group of people ambush their enemies, they attack them after hiding and waiting for them.
- catch — If you catch a person or animal, you capture them after chasing them, or by using a trap, net, or other device.
- hijack — to steal (cargo) from a truck or other vehicle after forcing it to stop: to hijack a load of whiskey.
- block — A block of flats or offices is a large building containing them.
- take away — something taken back or away, especially an employee benefit that is eliminated or substantially reduced by the terms of a union contract.

- interpose — to place between; cause to intervene: to interpose an opaque body between a light and the eye.

- curb — If you curb something, you control it and keep it within limits.
- take — to get into one's hold or possession by voluntary action: to take a cigarette out of a box; to take a pen and begin to write.

- capture — If you capture someone or something, you catch them, especially in a war.
- divert — to turn aside or from a path or course; deflect.
- cheque — A cheque is a printed form on which you write an amount of money and who it is to be paid to. Your bank then pays the money to that person from your account.
- cut in — If you cut in on someone, you interrupt them when they are speaking.
